Expensive hardware based solutions are not the answer. That's why we changed the system.
Grant schemes only offer funding if the measures installed can be used to increase EPC points.
But existing approaches being offered are expensive and a hassle. To route the solar electricity to the premises and comply with Energy Regulations they rely on installing extensive cabling and additional hardware. Hardware that is often awkward to accommodate.
On top of that, installation is incredibly disruptive for residents.
Such approaches provide a worse investment case than the traditional "landlord supply model" and typically lock in housing providers and residents to a single vendor for the hardware. This means no room for improvement or changes if things go wrong.
To accelerate a fair energy transition we need to do better than that.
Our solution only uses mature and widely available technologies, meaning there is no vendor lock in. Plus it's cheaper and simpler to install than alternative approaches.
We think it's great. But don't just take our word for it.Once we developed our new model, we worked closely with Ofgem to validate the approach.
We're proud that they agreed it was better for the market, and so they changed the regulations.When they did, we launched Solar4Flats.
